Auf der Kanaren-Insel Lanzarote erlebt der Besucher die Spuren des Vulkanismus, der den kanarischen Archipel vor Jahrmillionen entstehen ließ, besonders gut. Der letzte große Vulkanausbruch von 1730 hinterließ seine Spuren auf etwa einem Viertel der Insel. Die vielfarbige Lavalandschaft bestimmt das Gesicht Lanzarotes im Südwesten. Im Nationalpark Timanfaya kann der Besucher den Vulkanismus hautnah erleben.
